Arthur C Clarke’s 1973 novel Rendezvous With Rama is all about a 31-mile-long cylindrical alien starship that shows up in the Solar System one day. The book’s focus on an alien superstructure gives its covers the perfect subject, and plenty of artists have taken advantage.
